“GameDay Glamour”: A Mississippi State Outfit Guide

“I’m from Detroit. I went to Michigan State, and when football games rolled around, everyone was dressed for comfort; A t-shirt, jeans, puffer coat, and your most practical pair of sneakers was the uniform. My son invited me to an SEC football game, and I put on my usual Michigan State attire. What a mistake that was! Everyone was dressed to the nines. Women in their nicest dresses, and men in sport coats and slacks? I was in shock!” These are the words of my long time family friend when discussing the South and its unique charm.

It is a bit funny when you think about it - getting all dolled up just to complain about your feet hurting 20 minutes into a football game. However, this is southern culture: sweet tea, church, and football (especially football). These are the essentials of a classic southerner, and we love every second of it. I was born and raised in Mississippi into a sports crazed family, although I lack the football obsession chromosome. I couldn’t tell you what the wide receiver does or why they say “Blue 42,” but I do know that I love football season. The temperature starts cooling down (or at least we hope it does), and people welcome you with open arms into their tailgate tent adorned with free food and drinks. Most importantly, it’s an excuse to treat an event like it's the Met Gala.
